Cape Coast, Ghana.

A walk in the park and a walk down memory lane, that was how Traveltime AFRICA walked the talk on Saturday 1 June, 2019 with an exciting, fun-filled day trip to the Central region touring two of Ghana’s most talked about tourist sites – The Kakum National Park and Elmina Castle, both located in the richly endowed town of Cape Coast.

Blessed with the one ingredient every tourist hopes for in order to enjoy a day of adventure, the favourable weather proved to be the ideal catalyst for the day’s thrill. That, coupled with a smooth, fun, cool and interactive travel experience, it was destined to be a successful getaway as all aboard the van got to know each other pretty well at the end of the day.

Our first destination, The Kakum National Park, which plays home to a large variety of wildlife and the famously acclaimed Canopy Walk treated us to its finest thrills that got everyone well exercised walking the accent that leads to the canopy walk and shot with a good dose of adrenaline from the high twined ropes that spans as high as 40ft at its peak. We were glad to see no one “chicken out” of the 7 course canopy challenge lol.

The calm nature of the forest and clean air felt all around attests to the self-preserving quality of earth’s ability to sustain life, and that was a vital lesson we all picked from this unique experience had. And oh, how could we forget the imposing and intimidating height and mass of various trees adorning the over 300 square kilometers of rainforest.

Our next stop was the historically nostalgic edifice that takes you back in time and recounts the story of how slaves were treated and shipped abroad. This monstrous structure set at a strategically ideal location along the Central regional coastline with easy access to the Western region initially named São Jorge da Mina by the Portuguese, the Elmina castle as we now know it will go on to be declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979. It currently stands as the oldest European building in existence South of the Sahara, and a guided tour through its dungeons and dining area, corridors and chapel, residencies and occupancies makes you better appreciate the mix of emotions, intrigue, suspense, surprise, marvel and mysteries this historical treasure has to offer.

Our onboard photographer made sure we captured all the memorable moments experienced on the trip, and boy, didn’t the photo freaks have a field day. Photoshoot sessions at each destination visited, snaps, live status updates, selfies and filtered shots combined to make the first of June 2019 surely a memorable one for the travel diaries of all aboard the Traveltime AFRICA van that day

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async"
